ALAN MAKER

A former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in South Africa, the Reverend Dr Alan Maker served for thirty five years as senior minister of St Colomba’s church in Johannesburg. During the aparthheid era Alan led his church’s opposition to the South African state’s divisive philosophy, preaching openly on themes of racial harmony and social integration.

Whether through celebration of life’s great mysteries or personal intervention in the darkest of times, Alan’s ministry reached deep into the community and touched the hearts of poor and rich alike. The title of this blog “From My Window” comes from Alan’s popular music show on Johannesburg’s Radio Today where, between the songs, he can be heard expounding on (his great love) cricket, rugby, current affairs, and anything else that catches his eye! Father, grandfather and great grandfather, Alan lives in the Western Cape with his beloved wife and lifelong companion Margie.
